In Session

In Session originally began life as a radio show that was dreamt up by Christian Illingworth, Lily Higham, and Brian Pokora in September 2011 as a means of getting our favourite bands to play private gigs for us, albeit whilst live on-air. The concept being that we would welcome a new band into the studio each week to sing us a few songs and tell us a few tales with a little input from ourselves in the form of discussing the week in gigs.

From October-December, the show hit the ground running in series one and developed a loyal listenership following sessions with Esperi, Broken Records, and The Twilight Sad. Series two of In Session ran from February-May 2012 plus some special shows during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe which featured sessions with Frightened Rabbit, Meursault, and Michael Cassidy. In July 2012, the show received a nomination for Best Radio Show at the Scottish New Music Awards as well as Best Specialist Show at the Fresh Air Awards.

To coincide with the launch of series two, In Session released a free mixtape which featured 25 tracks compiled from all of the guests who had performed on the show during the first series. Again, to coincide with the launch of Series 3, In Session released a second series mixtape showcasing 24 tracks featuring every artist who performed on the show including artists such as Frightened Rabbit, Meursault, and Michael Cassidy to name but a few.

You can download the In Session mixtapes from http://insession.bandcamp.com for free with the option of making a donation to Shelter.
